Be Home When You Say You’ll Be Home

Be Home When You Say You’ll Be Home

Beloved,

When you tell your wife you will be home at a certain time, do everything reasonably possible to be there at that time.

This sounds like a small thing, but over time it becomes a big thing.

When we are consistently late, consistently delayed, or consistently changing plans, we send a message whether we intend to or not. We tell her that our schedule matters more than her schedule. We tell her that what we are doing is more important than what she is doing. Most of us do not mean to communicate that—but that is often how it is received.

Your word matters.

If you tell a customer you will be there at 3:00, you try hard to be there at 3:00. If you have a doctor’s appointment, you show up on time. If you have an important meeting, you make it a priority. Why should your wife receive less consideration than everyone else?

Sometimes things happen. Traffic happens. Work happens. Life happens.

But if you know you are going to be late, call her before you are supposed to be home. Not after. Let her know what is going on and when you expect to arrive. It is a simple courtesy, but it communicates respect.

And every now and then, surprise her.

Show up early.

Walk through the door fifteen minutes sooner than expected because you wanted to spend a little extra time with her. What wife would not appreciate that?

Many wives work hard to have dinner ready, keep the house moving, manage children, manage schedules, and make a hundred decisions we never even see. When we casually ignore the time we promised, we often create frustration that could have been avoided.

Gentlemen, let your wife know she is a priority. One of the easiest ways to do that is to keep your word.

Today, if you tell her you’ll be home at 6:00, be home at 6:00.

Better yet… be home at 5:45.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be a man whose word can be trusted. Teach me to honor my commitments, especially to those closest to me. Help me love my wife by showing her she is important to me.

Walk with the King today… and make sure your bride hears your heart.

Much love and blessings,
Royce
