Schedule It All For The Win!
But all things should be done decently and in order. 1 Corinthians 14:40
Total Organization. Schedule every moment. One of the top three things you can do in life to stay on target (and in general), keep out of trouble, and accomplish your goal, is to schedule your complete day. Schedule everything — and I mean everything.
Everything is scheduled, including sleep! Even free-time. Sleep? Yes. It forces you to make sure you get enough and plan your day better. Do it in half-hour increments. If you schedule all your time, there will be less opportunity to get sidetracked, to fail others by missing an appointment, plus you have the added benefit of accomplishing an enormous amount. You can put reminders in there for your own accountability. It takes me 15-20 minutes per day to keep this, and sometimes only five minutes.
Set it up a week in advance and tweak it as necessary — specifically five minutes the night before (so you don’t miss early morning meetings) and five minutes in the morning. With an App, you can even automate.
Studies have shown that 5-15 minutes a day planning can save up to two hours per day in wasted time. That’s 730 hours per year, five years over your lifetime. (What’s in your wallet!) What can you do with five years? Earn a degree? Learn a trade? Hobby? Grow some awesome kids?
Get your hands on a scheduler App for your smartphone, like ToDoist©, Google Calendar©, Notion©, etc., or something that works for you (operative word is “works for you”). It doesn’t matter if you’re a student, a salesperson, a homemaker, or a rocket scientist. Time is the most precious thing we have; and, if you use it well, you will always be satisfied with your day. You can always make/find more money — but you won’t find 20 minutes lying on the sidewalk. If you waste it, you will end up like the 4,000 retired 70 year old executives (study) who, when asked what they would have done differently in life, wished they had taken charge of their lives sooner (scheduled their lives better) and set goals earlier. Scheduling everything daily is the #1 thing you can do to start the process of being successful at anything. [ Excerpted from my book, Positive Accountability ]
Pray: Lord, impress upon me the need to be organized starting with my time — help me number my days… and hours… and minutes!
