JANUARY 24 • TRUE LEADERSHIP
Productivity
Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest. Proverbs 6:6-8
The ant is incredibly industrious and doesn’t have a Leader over her telling her what to do. Should not we be as or more productive? I have a friend who loves to be the most productive at work — he said sometimes he feels like he gets a lot of grief from those that are just getting by because he works so hard and makes them look like they are not working hard. We should all have that attitude about us. We should all work like we are on the Kings staff! Because we are!
Productivity is the main element of being a Level 3 Leader, in fact, it’s the name sake — Level 3: Production. Getting things done is crucial for everyone. Mere talk leads to poverty but action leads to profit — or accomplishment (Proverbs 14:23). That means we need to work hard, delegate well, grow others to work hard. You’ll hear many say, “don’t work harder, work smarter! I think we need to do both — work smarter first to work better, and then work harder to make our smarter work even more effective!
What does it mean to be produce? Manage well. Lead well. Teach well. Grow your people well. Teach them leadership! Make sure they have the best tools and training. Don’t be stuck in old technology. Collaborate. Schedule to the minute (scheduling time and tools!) Budget to the dollar (Budgeting tools and time!). First show yourself to be approved in producing well, then lead your people to producing well. Your schedule should be planned and executed extremely well. So should your budgeting. Put and delegate the right people in the right seats. Train, train, train your people. I believe it was Zig Ziglar who said, “Would you rather train your people and potentially lose them, or not train them and keep them?!?” If you treat your people well and train them well and lead them well, they will be really, really good and stay with you. If you don’t train them well and they stay, they become less and less productive and you have not helped them or your organization. Invest in your people! (and yourself).
Pray: Lord, show me the best way to be productive and help me train and grow myself and others so that we may be the most productive!
