Awareness

Keep a close watch on yourself and on your teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers. 1 Timothy 4:16

Another call of intentionality is to be aware — to examine ourselves to see if we are in the faith (2 Corinthians 13:5). In the same way, we should examine ourselves to see if we are leading correctly. By doing this we can save (rescue) ourselves and others we lead, from trouble or even disaster. I can’t tell you how many times when I was a young, inexperienced leader, that I wished I had been more aware of the situation or my inability to lead myself and others well. I did that which I thought was right, but I was wrong because I didn’t take the time to make myself aware.

Situational awareness is paramount and comes with experience applied to measuring the outcome of your actions. Life awareness is knowing your unique talents and gifts and using them in the best way possible.

Do you know what you’re good at? Do you know what your personality is and how it leads you 99% of the time? Do you know what you want to accomplish in life? Do you know why? Do you know your strengths? Your weaknesses? Do you know where you’re going? Or how to get there? I had enough trouble being aware of whether or not the clothes I was wearing matched, let alone aware of who I was and where I wanted to go. We must be intentionally aware of who we are, what we are, where we are going, and how we intend to get there. There is purpose to life and being aware of it is crucial to getting the most out of life. We need to apply awareness to our people as well.

So how do you become aware? Ask yourself great questions — good leaders ask great questions! Level-Up the quality of the questions you ask yourself (and others). If you’re not getting good answers it’s because you’re not asking great questions. The better the question, the closer you get to the reality of what you’re looking for. Write out some great questions now to ask yourself so you can become more aware of who you are and where you should be going — and why!

Pray: Lord, help me ask great questions about life and my purpose and help me answer them according to your desires and what is good for me!
